WHO/WHAT WAS SILICA-GEL?

Silica-Gel was formed in 199(?) by Michael Pilmer and Chris Tector, who met at NC State University in Raleigh, NC. Both discovered the electronic music scene around the same time, and shared a love of Skinny Puppy, Severed Heads, Coil, and other noise/industrial bands of the day.

Eventually they decided they had to make noise of their own, and called the project Silica-Gel.

For a short time, Silica-Gel was more than just Pilmer & Tector, who invited their friends Jeff Gosztyla and George Browing to join in. Jeff and George experimented with Michael and Chris for a few months in 1991/92...but Silica-Gel eventually boiled down to Pilmer & Tector as a recording/performing act.

Silica-Gel performed a handful of sporadic live shows on the East Coast of the US, including Raleigh, Wilmington, and NYC. The band released one full album in 1993 titled 50) Noisy Children Party on Negativland's SEELAND label, and appeared on a number of compilations throughout their recorded career from '93-'97.

Both Pilmer and Tector went on to create music/noise with other projects:

Michael Pilmer:
- Krapper Keeper (noise/art outfit with Matt Gress, Scott Craddock, and Chris Tector)
- Banana Twins (noise/art outfit with Matt Gress & Scott Craddock)
- Motor Tic Posse (drum & bass/noise outfit with Ian Shannon)
- THOR (THOR The Rock Warrior - Heavy Metal legend from Canada)

Chris Tector:

- Cast Iron Dog (Chris Tector's solo persona)
